Car Policy - Market Survey 2016: Which concepts are implemented in the fleets? What has changed since 2013?

In 2016 fleetcompetence europe GmbH again carries out a market survey on basics and concepts of car policies within corporate fleets. This allows an interesting benchmarking of fleet systems for the participating parties compared to companies from the same branch

The Car Policy is the centerpiece of a company car concept. Here is regulated, why company cars are made available, who is authorized to order a vehicle and what it may cost. The actual rules affect significantly the employee’s satisfaction and the company costs. The car policy therefore usually arises in the tension between HR and finance or purchasing department.

Already in 2013, fleetcompetence europe GmbH has made a first survey on this subject. Since the last study there were various relevant changes. Especially since the lifting of the minimum euro exchange rate, movement has come into the Swiss market. Various importers have lowered car prices or partially introduced high Euro Discounts. Therefore, it is now particularly interesting to find out whether this change in the starting position has led to adjustments to the company car regulations. So far there were no well-grounded findings. Therefore, fleetcompetence europe GmbH has decided to conduct a more detailed market survey and compare the results with those of previous studies. This study allows fleet operators to classify their own rules and to compare with other companies. The current study examines which concepts are currently being implemented in fleets and are so for the participants and the company an interesting insight into trends and new approaches to company cars and corporate mobility.

For the participants this provides the opportunity to obtain a company-specific analysis.
This allows an interesting benchmarking compared to companies from the same branch, with similar fleets. At this point of time participants registered for benchmarking get their company-specific analysis.

Discussion with John McNeill, President Global Sales & Service at Tesla Motors, on autonomous driving at the International Fleet Meeting

fleetcompetence europe and aboutFLEET held the conference for the third time successfully at Geneva Motor Show. For the third time the International Fleet meeting took place during the Geneva Motor Show. The participants experienced high-level speakers, including Jon McNeill, President Global Sales & Service of Tesla. An exciting panel discussion and opportunities for informal networking rounded off the event.

Once Again, on 2nd March 2016: The second press day of the International Motor Show was under the banner of the fleet industry. At the International Fleet Meeting more than 240 fleet managers and representatives of the automotive, leasing and services industry from around the world got in touch with each other. The two co-organizers, Fleetcompetence europe GmbH and the Swiss fleet magazine aboutFLEET, were able to offer a unique English platform to the international fleet industry in Geneva.

The key note presentation was performed by Jon McNeil from Tesla. He assured right in the beginning that the pleasure of driving will remain despite of the autopilot system! But the objective since the foundation of tesla was: to increase the sustainability of transport. McNeill assured for example that every Tesla over the entire production cycle has no environmental impact. He himself uses the autopilot function of his Tesla regularly. He goes to work in a relaxed way, while the car is taking over widely the driving part. This is a great advantage, especially in city traffic. Due to the continuous exchange of data on vehicle condition and driving habits, Tesla learns more and is able to optimize the software further. The collected experience of 1.2 million kilometres driven by autopilot, allows now to the conclusion that autonomous driving is not only safer, but in the future also helps to prevent many accidents.

During the following panel discussion, moderated by Anne Dobson, Advertising Director Fleet World Group, Csaba Csiszko, Global Director Environment, Health & Safety at Philip Morris International, confirmed McNeill's statements. All media are talking about a minor accident of a self-controlled car, and nobody would lose a word about the thousands of accidents that happened somewhere, the same day. It is clear that more than 97 percent of all accidents are caused by the "human factor", especially by the drivers’ distractions. McNeill added that at about half of all accidents nobody brakes in time.

Knut Krösche, Director International Fleet After Sales & Used Cars, Volkswagen Financial Services, pointed out that the findings of the Truck-Telematics can be valuable for the further development of autonomous driving, because there the studies are quite advanced. Due to integrated data and processes we could soon speak of the "Mobility 3.0". Janice Sutton, CEO Fleet Management Weekly USA, is looking forward to the future of autonomous driving, too: "Why should one be tempted to steal a car, if afterwards it moves autonomously to the nearest police station? ». Markus A. Falk, CFE Vice President, Head of Global Car Fleet, Global Procurement Organization SAP SE, mentioned at the panel discussion also with regard to SAP, that they intend to do more in the future in terms of autonomous and sustainable driving.
