Vehicle Fleet Management

Tobias Kern, Managing Partner fleetcompetence international GmbH will be course trainer at the Vehicle Fleet Management Cost Optimisation workshop in Dubai (Jan 2018) and Singapore (2018) organized by Q8 Asia. Attending the workshop will enable delegates to develop a deep and concise understanding of the key levers for developing and implementing a fleet optimisation strategy. The course concept goes far beyond the classical “procurement” approach to optimise fleet terms. It also covers a combined view on process efficiency, vehicle policy and alternative powertrains as basis for creating a holistic approach for realizing optimisation. The acquired skill-set along the “4P”-concept will allow to re-shape your fleet in order to make it “fit for purpose” along the organisational needs and objectives, whilst optimising costs.

Successful International Fleet Meeting 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show

This year's topic were concepts for international fleet management

For the fourth time already the International Fleet Meeting took place in the course of the Geneva Motor Show. Participants were hosted by top-class speakers, including Markus A. Falk, CFE, Vice President, Head of Global Car Fleet, Global Procurement Organization SAP SE and Jürgen Freitag, Head of Global Commodity Fleet Siemens AG. An exciting panel discussion and opportunities for informal networking rounded off the event.

On March 8, 2017 it was time again: the second press day of the International Motor Show was marked by the Fleet Branches. At the International Fleet Meeting, 250 fleet managers and representatives from the automotive, leasing and service industries met from all over the world. The two co-organizers, fleetcompetenceeurope GmbH and the Swiss fleet magazine aboutFLEET, offered the international fleet industry in Geneva a unique, English-speaking platform.

Markus A. Falk, SAP's Head of Global Car Fleet, drew attention to the opportunities and challenges that the world's largest provider of business software had to cope with when outsourcing the vehicle fleet. According to Falk, this is much more than just managing the vehicles of SAP which operates in more than 20 countries. Administrative, legal, commercial, or sustainable aspects had also to be arranged for with external service providers.

Jürgen Freitag, Head of Global Commodity Fleet Siemens AG, also devoted himself to the company's sustainability. The German technology company is committed to reducing the CO2 emissions of the Siemens fleet by 30 percent in the next few years. By 2030, the fleet consisting of more than 50,000 vehicles, is to become CO2-neutral. For this purpose, a global strategy was developed in nine months, which, in addition to guidelines, also includes strict controlling. Freitag pointed out explicitly that, despite the global strategy, national characteristics must always be taken into account.

In the subsequent panel discussion, chaired by Advertising Director Fleet World Group Anne Dopson, Paul Verkinderen, VP Europe and Africa, from Chevin Solutions, emphasized the importance of global reporting in order to harmonize national strategies on an international level. According to his findings, many companies still work on Excel spreadsheets.

Harald van Meel, Head of international Key Account Management VWFS AG drew attention to that the added value of the car manufacturer comes from the synergies between manufacturers, leasing companies and dealer network. He also pointed out that, for example, VW now offers comprehensive mobility services in the Netherlands - in addition to leasing, car-sharing, public transport and even the rental of e-bicycles. Vinzenz Pflanz, Chief Sales Officer of Sixt Leasing SE, explained that the maturity of fleet management services in Europe between the north-west and south-east is decreasing severely. According to Pflanz the most comprehensive range of services is available in Great Britain. He sees three great advantages in working with an external fleet manager: taking over the operational activities, providing a global fleet reporting and, in the future, increasing monitoring of the driving behavior.
The International Fleet Meeting 2017 was supported by the gold sponsors Arval, Alphabet Fuhrparkmanagement (Schweiz) AG and Volkswagen Financial Services as well as the silver sponsors ARI, FleetLogistics, Hertz, Sales Lab, Sixt Leasing, Mobility Systems+Services and Chevin.
